Education

Abel Wajnerman Paz is an assistant professor at the Institute of Applied Ethics of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. He received his doctorate in Philosophy from the Universidad de Buenos Aires (2014), supported by a CONICET fellowship. He held postdoctoral fellowships from CONICET and FONDECYT. He holds a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy from the Faculty of Philosophy and Letters at the Universidad de Buenos Aires. He founded and directed the Center for Neuroethics and Philosophy of Neuroscience at the Universidad Alberto Hurtado. He currently provides expert advisory services on his research topics for governmental and private organizations in various countries.

Research

His main areas of interest are the Philosophy of Cognitive Neuroscience and Neuroethics, focusing on epistemic and conceptual questions concerning the neuroscientific study of neural computation and information processing, their connection to mental capacities such as perception, thought, emotions, and consciousness, and their neuroethical implications regarding mental privacy, psychological integrity, and autonomy.
