Augusto Wiegand Cruz
Education
Augusto Wiegand is an assistant professor at the Institute of Applied Ethics and the School of Government of the Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile. He holds a doctorate in Law from the University of Regensburg, Germany (with postdoctoral studies at the same institution), an LLM in Legal Theory from the University of Frankfurt am Main, Germany, and a law degree from the Universidad Católica.
Research
His area of specialization is human dignity as the ethical and legal foundation of the State in general, and of human rights in particular, as well as the general theory of fundamental rights. His ongoing research addresses, among other topics, the standards of conduct applicable to those bound by fundamental rights obligations (e.g., public administration officials) in light of human dignity; the foundations of the welfare state in Chile; and the reception norms for the adequate fulfillment of Chile’s international human rights obligations.
